Spirit Week

May 21-25 Spirit Week Attire 
M- comfy clothes/PJ’s
T- genre day- dress in a genre of music, history, fashion trends, etc.
W- Sports day (hats are allowed)  
Th- throw it back to the 80’s 
F- Funky socks! Add some fun to your outfit. The crazier, the better! 

*socks required everyday. Attire must be school appropriate.

Field Day

Cologne Academy K-4 Field Day
K-4 Field Day is Tuesday, May 29th (rain or shine) If outdoors, Field Day will take place on the city field southwest of the school.  If raining, Field Day will be held in the gym. Students should wear their college t-shirts and may wear their own non-uniform shorts. Sunscreen advised! Parents wanting to attend can get to the field by parking at the school and taking the walking path behind the gym to the field OR by driving west on Village Parkway from the school and taking a left (south) on Naples Avenue. Field Day Schedule is as follows:  K-2nd grades participates from 9-10:45 and 3rd & 4th grades from 1:00-2:30. If there is inclement weather, families will be notified of the change to indoors around 7:30amthrough Schoolway.

Week 36

Here’s what our CA first graders are/will be learning in our 36th week:


IRA: We will be doing an author study about Eric Carle.  We will be reviewing topics taught throughout the year. (Main Idea, Characters, Setting, Retell)  

Phonics:  Review of -ed and -ing sounds in words. (stepped, joking, walked, clapping)  They will make and identify these sounds in words as well as make sentences using these word sounds.

Writing: We will be reviewing handwriting and sentence structure.

Math: We will be continuing with money and reviewing for the last math interim.  
 
IXL: If you would like to use IXL at home, we recommend these sections for practice this week:

Core Knowledge: In this domain, students will hear about the birth of our country, the United States of America. They will be introduced to many important historical figures and events as the story unfolds to describe how the thirteen colonies evolved slowly over time from their initial dependence on England to the status of an independent nation. In the read-alouds at the beginning of the domain, students will hear about the establishment of the thirteen colonies and will learn about the conflicts that ensued between the colonies and Great Britain. They will learn how the imposition of taxes upon the colonies by Britain led to the Boston Tea Party and, eventually, to war between the colonies and Britain, culminating in the Declaration of Independence and the founding of a new nation. Additional readalouds highlight several particularly important historical figures—Betsy Ross, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson. Finally, the domain concludes with two read-alouds that focus on the role of women, Native Americans, and African Americans during the colonial time period, as well as important symbols of our nation.
