Here’s what our CA first graders are/will be learning in our 30th week:
IRA: We are continuing in our Fractured Fairy Tales. Factured tales are a modern twist on an old tale from a different character's point of view. Ask you child what stories they have listened to already and compare how they are different from the originals.
Phonics: We will be reading and writing words ending in -ing. Some rules that determin how a wrod adds -ing are: short vowel + two consonants = add ing, short vowel and 1 consonant = double the consonant and then add -ing, or drop the -e to add -ing if the word ends with a silent e.
Writing: We are starting our opinion writing unit. In this unit your child will be stating their own opinion about a gien subject and defending it with 3 reasons. They will again start with gathering information about their opinion, finding a lead in topic sentence, use transition words to make their 3 points, and end with a restating conclusion.
Math: Our interims are over and our study of TIME begins. Students will be able to read the face of an anolog clock naming its many parts and will learn to tell time to the hour, half hour and maybe even to quarter after and quarter to.
IXL: If you would like to use IXL at home, we recommend these sections for practice this week:
Core Knowledge: We will be starting a new unit called History of the Earth. In this unit your child will learn about the geographical features of the earth's surface. They will about learn about the inside of the earth's surface and its many layers.
