Week 17

Here’s what our CA first graders are learning in our 17th week:

IRA: This week we focus on retelling events in sequence, and reviewing the 5 W's. We will be reading Holiday themed texts including the "Grinch Stole Christmas".

Phonics:  We are focusing on reading and spelling long I patterns of    -ie, igh, and y as I. (time, night, sky)

Writing: We are continuing to learn how to create a "How to" writing piece. We use first, next, and last to organize our thoughts when giving a step-by-step writing sample.

Math: We are working on strategies on how to add three numbers together, as well as reviewing concepts like place value and patterns.

IXL: If you would like to use IXL at home, we recommend these sections for practice this week:
  • Counting and Number Patterns (Section A)
  • Addition (Section B & C)
  • Subtraction (Section D, E, G & H)
  • Mixed Operations (Section F)
  • Comparing (Section K)

Core Knowledge:  We will be connecting our IRA reading of Grinch to he movie, and comparing and contrasting similarities and differences between the two.

Core Virtue: December is Gratitude

Parent Survey! (Please Read)

We want to know what YOU think about our school.  We have the great opportunity to participate in a study that helps us collect and understand your opinion of the climate of our school.

This study will seek to establish the usefulness of the My Child’s Classroom Inventory-Short Form, a 25-item user-friendly survey designed to assess parents’/guardians’ perceptions of their child’s classroom environment.

As you know, we are a PBIS school and our desire is to continue to grow a positive and sustainable classroom environment. Your input is very valuable!

Non-identifying data gathered from the survey will be stored in a secure online environment. Information will be kept confidential and secure and only the people working with the study will have access to the data unless required by law.

This survey will only take 10-15minutes. We greatly appreciate you taking your time to do this!
