Week 31

This is what our fabulous first graders are learning this week:

Math:  Students will learn to count Money.  (Penny, Nickle, Dime, Quarter)  Please practice counting money at home!

Measuring: P.2-5

3D Objects: W.1-10 
Time:  U.1-7

Phonics: Students continue to identify the oo sounds in words. (Spoon, moon, look, book)

Core KnowledgeWe will start unit The New Nation. This week we will talk about the thirteen colonies and Christopher Columbus.  

Writing:  Narrative writing is a small moment story told from personal experience.  Just like our other units, we will break this own into small chunks and do several of them together before they write their own independent piece.

Interactive Read Aloud:  Swimmy, Hello Ocean, House For Hermit Crab, The Seashore 

April Core Virtue:   Forgiveness

Spring Fling:


1st Grade:
Movie Night - Ideas: DVD’s, DVD player, popcorn, popcorn toppings, candy, blankets, gift cards to local theaters, Redbox or Netflix
Camping - Ideas: outdoor dishes, pudgy pie makers, smores fixings, roasting forks, campfire recipe book, flashlights, matches, batteries, travel radio, cards, lawn games, blankets, towels, sleeping bag, tent, canopy, air mattress

Cologne Academy K-4 Field Day
K-4 Field Day is Tuesday, May 30th (rain or shine)  If outdoors, Field Day will take place on the city southwest of the school. If raining, Field Day will be held in the gym. Students should wear their college t-shirts and may wear their own non-uniform shorts. Sunscreen advised! Parents wanting to attend can get to the field by parking at the school and taking the walking path behind the gym to the field OR by driving west on Village Parkway from the school and taking a left (south) on Naples Avenue. Field Day Schedule is as follows:

K-2nd grades participates from 9-10:45
3-4th grades from 1:00-2:30
