Hello
families!
Here’s what our CA
first graders are learning week 4:
Read Aloud: This week is all about predictions. This week’s stories include; Nuts to You, City Green, And Flower
Garden. When you read to your child
ask them questions about the story and have them make predictions about what
they think will happen next. Have them
back up their prediction with either picture of text evidence.
Phonics: This week in phonics,
we are learning about changing words by adding one new letter, as well as how
to hear and recognize beginning and ending sounds in words.
Writing: Handwriting continues as we learn to properly form letters.
We are working to reach the top line, the base line, and to make sure our
lowercase letters stay with the dotted line area. Practice, practice,
practice. Remember that it is still age appropriate to reverse letters
and numbers.
Math: This week, we are learning about even more strategies for addition.
Students will write numbers as tally marks, add numbers in any order
horizontally and vertically, add using a number line, and represent addition
sentences with pictures.
IXL: If you would like to use IXL at home, we recommend these sections for practice this week:
- Counting and Number. Patterns
(Section A)
- Addition (Section B)
- Number lines (B.3)
- Subtraction (Section H)
Core Knowledge: Our new unit in Core
Knowledge is the Human Body. During the next weeks your children will be
learning about the human body. They will
learn about the five body systems: skeletal, muscular, digestive, circulatory,
and nervous. It’s sure to be an exciting
unit.
Core Virtue: September’s core virtues are
Respect—treating others with high regard—and Responsibility—doing your part for
others and your community.
Greetings from the Spanish Department at Cologne Academy! We would like to take a moment to encourage you to explore the Cologne Academy Spanish Blog. On the blog, you can find out what your child is learning in Spanish class. We also post most of the videos and songs that we use in class so that you can listen to them at home. Enjoy! http://cologneacademyspanish.blogspot.com/
