Week 33 April 23rd - 27th

Here’s what our CA first graders are/will be learning in our 33rd week:

IRA: Weather (cold read and hot read)  Students will identify text that they do not know and figure out its meaning through context clues and meaning.

Phonics:  -oo and  -ou sounds in words. (pull, book)  They will make and identify these sounds in words as well as make sentences using these word sounds.

Writing: We are finishing our opinion writing unit.  In this unit your child stated their own opinion about a given subject and defending it with 3 reasons.  They start with gathering information about their opinion, finding a lead in topic sentence, use transition words to make their 3 points, and end with a restating conclusion.  They are working hard.

Math: Show me the Money!  Students will be able to name coins, count like coins, add various coins together, and much more.

IXL: If you would like to use IXL at home, we recommend these sections for practice this week:
  • Counting and Number Patterns (Section A)
  • Addition (Section B, C & D)
  • Subtraction (Section E, F, G & H)
  • Mixed Operations (Section J)
  • Comparing (Section K)
  • Place Value (Section M)
  • Spatial Sense (Section N)
  • 2D and 3D shapes (Section V)
  • Measurement (Section P)
  • Time (Section U)
  • Money (Section Q)

Core Knowledge: Your child will be learning about many different types of habitats: desert, rainforest, decidious, ocean, tundra, savanna, and more. They will learn what basic needs must be met in each habitat and what adaptions are made to survive.
